“Growing up on a farm in the 1940’s it was not uncommon for farmers to get their feed in a variety of beautiful fabric sacks. I remember my mother making dresses from the feed sacks for my two older sisters. My identical twin and I were always dressed alike, and one sack was only enough for one dress, so we never got to wear feed-sack dresses.
Recently, my friend Ruth Ann was downsizing her fabric stash. She had collected feed sacks over many years and offered them to anyone who would use them. I had never made a quilt using feed sacks and decided to try it. The pattern I used reminded me of a puzzle, and it was fun to piece together.
Due to the delicate nature of the feed-sack fabric, I hand quilted it, which I have always enjoyed doing.”
