Draft Animal Day

Billings Farm’s Draft Animal Day takes place on Sunday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Happy Mother’s Day! Mothers receive free admission.
Learn all about the powerful draft horses, working steers, and oxen that farmers have traditionally used on the farm. See plowing demonstrations and try a hand plow pulled by horses. Timed events include:
10:30-11:00 Draft Horse Harnessing Demonstration
11:15-12:30 Horse Plowing Demonstration and Q & A
11:30-12:30 Ox Hoof Trimming and Shoeing Demonstration
1:00-1:30 Draft Horse Harnessing Demonstration
1:45-3:00 Try Your Hand at Plowing in the fields
3:00-4:00 Ox Hoof Trimming and Shoeing Demonstration
4:00 Parade of Ox Teams
Throughout the Day:
Families will enjoy hearing a reading of Huck’s Way Home, the story of Billings Farm’s runaway calf and then make a Huck’s Ears Headband! Kids can partake in the Hobby Horse Barrel Race and take home a ribbon. Meet the Billings Farm draft horse team, Luke & Lonnie, in the Draft Animal Barn and visit the working steers and oxen in the Show Barn. See historic farm equipment near the plowing fields and the Draft Animal displays in the Activity Barn. Find out how flowers were used as secret code in the Victorian Flower Language program.

Trail Break Taps and Tacos food truck will be serving a variety of tacos, quesadillas, street corn, chips and salsa, plus a beer garden and refreshing non-alcoholic options from 11:00-4:00.
The Dairy Bar will be serving ice cream and refreshing treats, plus Billings Farm cheese from 11:00-5:00.
