Learn all about maple sugaring in Vermont during the Magic of Maple\, daily from February 12 – 27\, 10am – 4pm. \nVermont’s rich maple history will be on display\, through photographs from the Billings Farm collection and a showcase of tools used for tapping\, sugaring and processing. Come learn about maple trees and why they produce their sweet sap. On Feb. 19 & 20\, local maple sugarer\, Mary McCuaig of Top Acres Farm\, will be on site to share the maple sugaring process from tree to bottle. Top Acres Farm Syrup will also be available for purchase in the Museum Gift Shop. \nSample the treat of Sugar on Snow and see video demonstrations on how to make a delicious Maple Popcorn snack at home. Create a paper snowflake craft\, read children’s stories by the outdoor fire and warm up with hot chocolate\, coffee and s’mores\, available for purchase on site from 10am-3pm.   \nDuring the Magic of Maple\, enjoy: \n\nBillings Farm Snow Creations Challenge Construct\, create or decorate a snow creation at Billings Farm! Online and phone ticket sales close at noon on the Friday before the showing. Tickets may be available for purchase at the Ticket Desk on the day of the film if seating allows. \nFILM SERIES SAFETY\nIn re-opening our theater to the Film Series\, we will prioritize the health and safety of our guests. The theater has been upgraded with a MERV 13 filtration system. Film attendees are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. DESCRIPTION:For ages 7-10 or entering grades 2-5\nRegistration for Camp 2022 opens Jan. 1\, 2022.\nHave you ever wondered what it takes to be a farmer?\nJunior Farmer Camp\, is designed to help kids discover for themselves by stepping into a farmer’s shoes for a week. \nJunior Farmer Camp is as hands-on as it gets. Campers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s cows\, horses\, chickens\, and sheep while learning the work that goes into the food we eat. In addition to daily farm chores and activities\, we will explore a different farming topics like dairy\, gardening\, tractors\, and draft animals. Other fun camp activities include: \n\nTaking a hayride through the farm fields\nHaving a pizza party with garden fresh ingredients\nParticipating in scavenger hunts around the farm\nTie dying a Junior Farmer Camp t-shirt\n\nLearn more here. \n  \nOur Junior Farmer Camp follows the CDC and state government guidelines to ensure the safety of our campers and counselors. The group sizes for each session will continue to be small\, consisting of 10-18 campers and 2-3 counselors and will be split into small groups following CDC guidelines for social distancing. \nOur response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated as more information and state government guidelines becomes available. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum. \nThe majority of our camp activities will be held outside where campers can maintain social distance. Campers help with animal chores for the sheep\, goats\, chickens\, and heifers\, take tractor-drawn wagon rides\, play games\, and do gardening\, crafts\, and cooking. We will take advantage of the adjacent National Historical Park for hiking and learn about Vermont’s natural history. We can’t wait to see you at Junior Farmer Camp! \n  \nAftercare Information:\nWe understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time. \nAftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm\, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare\, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms. \nWe have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time. \nAftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. DESCRIPTION:July 9th 10:00-11:30  \nPrice:  $15 person/$10 member (materials included)\nPresenter: Tiana St. James\nLocation: On site at Billings Farm & Museum  \nRegister Today!\nAdd unique charm to natural yarn for your next home fiber arts project – join local artisan Tiana St. James to learn the basics of hand dyeing for yourself!   \nUsing yarn spun from the wool of Billings Farm Southdown Sheep\, you will explore dyeing methods with weak acid\, natural dyes\, and even kool-aid dyes.  Students will leave the workshop with practical skills for home dyeing and three hand-dyed “mini-skeins” of yarn to use in your own projects. \nA Q&A period with the presenter may continue for up to 30 minutes past the scheduled end time. This workshop will be held at Billings Farm & Museum. \nAbout Tiana St. James\nTiana St. James\, an Upper Valley native\, has been an Interpreter at Billings Farm and Museum for seven years. She loves helping others learn about the history of anything and everything\, particularly domestic arts. Tiana’s love of knitting and crochet led her to discover the fascinating and full world of fiber arts\, and she has participated in all stages of the wool and flax to linen processes. Through her association with the Aker Fiber Farm in Enfield\, NH\, she has developed and taught classes for a variety of ages on a wide array of textile crafts. Tiana has been known to knit in such unique situations as hurricane force winds and on New England hikes. When she is not crafting\, she enjoys gardening and cooking\, often while listening to books. DESCRIPTION:For ages 7-10 or entering grades 2-5\nRegistration for Camp 2022 opens Jan. 1\, 2022.\nHave you ever wondered what it takes to be a farmer?\nJunior Farmer Camp\, is designed to help kids discover for themselves by stepping into a farmer’s shoes for a week. \nJunior Farmer Camp is as hands-on as it gets. Campers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s cows\, horses\, chickens\, and sheep while learning the work that goes into the food we eat. In addition to daily farm chores and activities\, we will explore a different farming topics like dairy\, gardening\, tractors\, and draft animals. Other fun camp activities include: \n\nTaking a hayride through the farm fields\nHaving a pizza party with garden fresh ingredients\nParticipating in scavenger hunts around the farm\nTie dying a Junior Farmer Camp t-shirt\n\nLearn more here. \n  \nOur Junior Farmer Camp follows the CDC and state government guidelines to ensure the safety of our campers and counselors. The group sizes for each session will continue to be small\, consisting of 10-18 campers and 2-3 counselors and will be split into small groups following CDC guidelines for social distancing. \nOur response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated as more information and state government guidelines becomes available. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum. \nThe majority of our camp activities will be held outside where campers can maintain social distance. Campers help with animal chores for the sheep\, goats\, chickens\, and heifers\, take tractor-drawn wagon rides\, play games\, and do gardening\, crafts\, and cooking. We will take advantage of the adjacent National Historical Park for hiking and learn about Vermont’s natural history. We can’t wait to see you at Junior Farmer Camp! \n  \nAftercare Information:\nWe understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time. \nAftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm\, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare\, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms. \nWe have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time. \nAftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. Campers are encouraged to bring a book or other activity for this time. \n  \n2022 Dates\nSession 2: July 11-15. \nRefunds can be given if notice is received prior to May 21st with a $50 processing fee. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the butterflies\, dragonflies\, and bumblebees of summer and learn to paint with watercolor in this workshop led by Artist-in-Residence\, Margaret Dwyer.   \nDuring this introductory class\, observe the colors\, textures\, and patterns of your subjects while learning the basic techniques of this incredible medium. Pick up a few “tricks” that will add to your images. Enjoy the experience of painting in a relaxed setting\, and take home the art you create.   \nThis workshop is $65/person\, $60/members with materials included. Advanced registration is recommended. \nRegister now!\nAbout the Artist: \nMargaret Dwyer earned her Master of Fine Art degree in Visual Arts in 2008 from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her thesis work involved researching\, writing\, and creating art based on psychological themes such as trauma\, dreams\, and the unconscious. She works in 2-D and 3-D mediums\, though watercolor is her favorite. Her artwork has been recognized in numerous juried national and international exhibitions and has been published in fine art books and magazines. From 2019 to 2021\, Margaret was the Artist in Residence for Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock\, VT. As a mural artist\, she has created dozens of public and private murals throughout New England. Currently\, she teaches art at her studio in Windsor\, VT. DESCRIPTION:For ages 11-14 or entering grades 6-9\nGo in-depth into the world of farming!\nWhat does it mean to be part of a farming community? Farm Discovery Camp is a hands-on program for young people\, ages 11-14 (rising 6th-9th graders)\, who want a deeper understanding of farming and all that it encompasses. \nAt Farm Discovery Camp you will meet local professionals and farmers who are leaders in their fields — the Billings Dairy Farm Manager\, local beekeepers\, and a large animal veterinarian. Work alongside our farmers to learn the ins and outs of dairy production. Take part in a local service project — at Billings Farm or in the Woodstock community and make a lasting difference. Along the way\, you will gain an awareness of the many ways our food systems and our ecosystems are interconnected.
