SUMMARY:Natchez
DESCRIPTION:2025. Directed by Suzannah Herbert. 86 minutes. Not rated. \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nSaturday’s screening includes a discussion with director Suzannah Herbert. \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, March 21\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, March 22 \nNatchez captures an unsettling clash between history and memory in a small Mississippi town. This film is a layered mosaic of people contending with the weight of the past in a place where the past is always present. \nEqual parts amusing and disturbing\, we journey through an antebellum tourist destination at a crossroads as it grapples with a deeply troubled history that is so thoroughly ingrained in its present\, we’re left to wonder if it’s actually past at all. \n \n\n“One of the Great Documentaries of the 21st Century – and the 19th Century as well. Glory lies not in the past but the struggle to appropriately reckon with it in this stylish and sophisticated look at the Old South.” – A Moveable Feast

Not rated. \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, March 14\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, March 15 \nEvery Little Thing follows author and wildlife rehabilitator Terry Masear on her heartfelt mission to save every injured hummingbird in Los Angeles. SUMMARY:Folktales
DESCRIPTION:2025. Directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. 105 minutes. Not rated. \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm member. \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, February 28\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, March 1 \nFrom Oscar®-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady\, Folktales is a life-affirming journey to Arctic Norway\, where teenagers spend a transformative “gap year” at Pasvik Folk High School. Relying on one another and a loyal pack of Siberian huskies\, they learn to dog sled\, navigate the wilderness\, and discover new strength and purpose. \nInspired by the Norse myth of the Norns\, deities who wove the threads of fate and shaped humans’ futures\, Pasvik Folk High School aims to create similar life-changing experiences for its students. Through intimate storytelling and exhilarating cinematography\, Folktales captures young people on the cusp of adulthood\, finding themselves at the edge of the world. \n\n“Folktales” lends a universal resonance to the coming-of-age story\, just as good folk tales do. These young people might trust the Norns to thread their fates\, but learning to control their own destinies proves an empowering life lesson.” – POV Magazine

SUMMARY:Gaucho\, Gaucho
DESCRIPTION:2024. Directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw. 85 minutes. Not rated. (B&W) In Spanish with English subtitles.  \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, February 14\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, February 15 \nGaucho\, Gaucho celebrates a close-knit community of gauchos- cowboys and cowgirls who live beyond the boundaries of the modern world\, whose lives remain deeply tied to the land\, their horses\, and one another. This film\, shot in black and white\, paints an Argentinian Western that captures the operatic beauty of life in the vast mountains of Argentina. \nAs older generations share their wisdom\, the film turns its gaze to a new generation striving to uphold their families’ legacy in a modern world. With reverence for nature\, spirituality\, and heritage\, Gaucho reveals a portrait of a culture that continues to ride proudly toward the future while carrying the weight and wonder of its past. \n\n“These filmmakers have enormous reserves of love and empathy for traditions that miraculously survive in spite of the modern world. And their compassion has never looked more cinematic.” – Harper’s Bazaar

SUMMARY:Seeds
DESCRIPTION:2025. Directed by Brittany Shyne. 123 minutes. Not rated. (B&W) \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, January 31\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, February 1 \nFilmed in black and white\, Seeds is a lyrical portrait of Black generational farmers in the American South. Interweaving the stories of three families\, the film creates a collective and intimate portrait of farming today\, a moving exploration of their lives\, joys\, and struggles\, and of the fragility of legacy and land ownership. \nThrough scenes of cotton harvesting\, chasing cows\, and mending broken machinery\, Seeds honors farmers’ deep connection to heritage and place while confronting a sobering truth: only a fraction of the 16 million acres once owned by Black farmers remains today. In moments of warmth and resilience\, this film reveals the enduring strength of memory\, legacy\, and hope.  \n\n“There is no part of “Seeds” that doesn’t feel like a priceless heirloom\, like a window into a critical cultural history that must be maintained or lest be permanently lost.  It isn’t just a stunning portrait of the people who labor not only to feed the world. It’s also about a lifestyle that runs counterintuitive to the exploitative forces in which many of us live our lives.” – Roger Ebert.com \n

SUMMARY:Far Out: life on & after the commune
DESCRIPTION:2024. Directed by Charles Light. 85 minutes. Not rated. \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nSaturday’s screening includes a discussion with director Charles Light. \nPurchase Tickets – Saturday\, January 3\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, January 4 \n\nFar Out: life on & after the commune traces fifty years in the lives of a group of radical journalists\, writers\, and artists who left New York City in 1968 to found two rural communes in Vermont and Western Massachusetts. What began as an experiment in communal living and organic farming became a catalyst for the back-to-the-land and anti-nuclear movements. \nFrom the fields of Guilford and Montague to the front lines of the “No Nukes” protests\, the film reveals how these idealists not only helped transform rural New England\, but were\, in turn\, transformed by it. \n\n“It’s hard to imagine a Vermont-ier documentary – an absorbing historical tapestry.” – Margot Harrison\, Seven Days

SUMMARY:The Librarians
DESCRIPTION:2025. Directed by Kim A. Snyder. 92 minutes. Not rated. \nSaturday’s screening includes a discussion with producer Janique Robillard. \nBillings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater\n$15 person/$12 Billings Farm Member \nSOLD OUT – Saturday\, January 3rd\nPurchase Tickets – Sunday\, January 4th \n\nThe Librarians follows a courageous group of librarians who become unlikely defenders of democracy amid an unprecedented wave of book bans sweeping Texas\, Florida\, and beyond. When the Krause List targets 850 titles focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories\, censorship spreads nationwide. \nFacing harassment\, threats\, and laws that criminalize their work\, these librarians unite to protect the freedom to read and the principles of the First Amendment. Connecting the dots from local board meetings to a coordinated extremist movement\, The Librarians reveals how controlling ideas means controlling communities\, and why the fight for intellectual freedom has never been more vital. \n\n“Filmmaker Kim A. Snyder’s illuminating documentary offers a rattling look at coordinated efforts to ban books. More importantly\, it introduces viewers to the everyday and increasingly vital heroes pushing back.” – Variety
