SUMMARY:Junior Farmer Camp Session 1
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJunior Farmer Camp\, is designed to help kids discover for themselves by stepping into a farmer’s shoes for a week. \nJunior Farmer Camp is as hands-on as it gets. Campers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s cows\, horses\, chickens\, and sheep while learning the work that goes into the food we eat. In addition to daily farm chores and activities\, we will explore a different farming topics like dairy\, gardening\, tractors\, and draft animals. Other fun camp activities include: \n\nTaking a hayride through the farm fields\nHaving a pizza party with garden fresh ingredients\nParticipating in scavenger hunts around the farm\nTie dying a Junior Farmer Camp t-shirt\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCampers help with animal chores for the sheep\, goats\, chickens\, and heifers\, take tractor-drawn wagon rides\, play games\, and do gardening\, crafts\, and cooking. We will take advantage of the adjacent National Historical Park for hiking and learn about Vermont’s natural history. We can’t wait to see you at Junior Farmer Camp! \nOur response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAftercare Information:\nWe understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time. \nAftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm\, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare\, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms. \nWe have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time. \nAftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJunior Farmer Camp\, is designed to help kids discover for themselves by stepping into a farmer’s shoes for a week. \nJunior Farmer Camp is as hands-on as it gets. Campers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s cows\, horses\, chickens\, and sheep while learning the work that goes into the food we eat. In addition to daily farm chores and activities\, we will explore a different farming topics like dairy\, gardening\, tractors\, and draft animals. Other fun camp activities include: \n\nTaking a hayride through the farm fields\nHaving a pizza party with garden fresh ingredients\nParticipating in scavenger hunts around the farm\nTie dying a Junior Farmer Camp t-shirt\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCampers help with animal chores for the sheep\, goats\, chickens\, and heifers\, take tractor-drawn wagon rides\, play games\, and do gardening\, crafts\, and cooking. We will take advantage of the adjacent National Historical Park for hiking and learn about Vermont’s natural history. We can’t wait to see you at Junior Farmer Camp! \nOur response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAftercare Information:\nWe understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time. \nAftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm\, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare\, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms. \nWe have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time. \nAftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesdays\, June 6\, 13\, 20\, 27\nTime:  5:30-7:30PM\nSeries Price:  $160/person\, $150 member\nAges:  16+ \nClick Here to Register \nExplore fascinating fiber fusion as this four-part series delves into the fleece to yarn process. Students will experience the transformative stages from evaluating and selecting materials to processing\, washing\, and carding raw wool in preparation for spinning.  In this class workshop instructor and owner of Aker Fiber Farm\, Patty Williams\, will demonstrate the difference between roving for fluffy consistency and combed top\, for a sleek and uniform result.  Students will also learn how to spin worsted-style ply which produces a bulky weight yarn that is great for knitting. \nNo prior experience is necessary to take this class.  Registration required in advance.  Students are welcome to bring fleeces\, spinning wheels\, drop spindles\, and carders. Equipment and materials are available for use. \nAbout Patty Williams: \nPatty Williams is the owner of Aker Fiber Farm in Enfield Center\, NH. Knitter\, spinner\, dyer\, designer\, and instructor\, Patty grew up in all things fiber. She truly lives the farm to fiber lifestyle\, and has had her own farm for ten years. She has been in fiber arts for over 30. She has taught fiber arts to folks of all ages for over 20 years up and down the east coast. SUMMARY:Father’s Day at the Farm
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Father’s Day at Billings Farm!   \nAt 2PM step up to the plate for a friendly\, action-packed game of historic base ball. Following rules from 1860\, the game will be played on a field beyond the pastures with wood shaving baselines\, canvas bases filled with straw\, along with a metal pitcher’s plate and home plate.  Players will use ash bat reproductions and follow the tradition of playing barehanded.   \nVisitors of all ages can join the team or grab some ice cream from the Farmhouse Scoop Shop and cheer from the bleachers for one of the original American pastimes. Test your skills in a three-legged race or egg and spoon race. Visit the farm\, Quilt Exhibition\, and Farm Life Exhibits too. Historic base ball\, crafts and activities included with regular admission. Purchase in advance or at the Admissions Desk on arrival.

DESCRIPTION:Join the celebration of local quilters as they stitch together tradition and storytelling in the 37th Annual Quilt Exhibition at Billings Farm & Museum.\n\nThe incredible display of artfully crafted quilts will transform Billings Farm’s Historic Barn from June 3 – July 23\, 10:00AM – 5:00PM. The juried exhibition features contemporary quilts made by Windsor County quilters\, historic quilts from the Billings Farm collection\, and “Beatles” themed challenge quilts made by members of the Heart of the Land Guild.\n\nLearn about the techniques\, themes\, patterns\, materials\, and collaborations each quilt represents\, and the touching personal stories behind each quilt’s creation.\n\nSee demonstrations and activities including a quilt-themed reading corner and quilting on a quilt frame.\n\nTest your eagle eyes in the Quilt Scavenger Hunt to discover interesting elements hidden among the stitches.\n\nVote for your favorite quilts for the People’s Choice Award!\n Admission is required to view the exhibition. Admission to Billings Farm & Museum includes the Animal Barns\, Vermont Farm Life Exhibits\, the Interpretive Walking Trail and the 1890 Farm Manager’s House. The 1890 Farm Manager’s House features the creamery\, the kitchen and in-home innovations that were considered state-of-the art for the time. Visitors can meet the farm’s cows\, draft horses\, sheep\, goats\, and chickens in the barns and scenic pastures and enjoy ice cream and snacks at the Farmhouse Scoop Shop.   \nLove quilts? DESCRIPTION:Billings Backyard: Permaculture Gardening \nSaturday June 17th\,  10:00am-11:30am  \nPrice:  $15 person/$10 member\nPresenter: Ben Pauly\nLocation: Billings Farmstead Gardens\nAges: 16+ \nIt’s time to get your hands dirty and have some perennial fun!  If you have a passion for permaculture or a hankering to learn more\, this workshop is for you! \nRain or shine\, workshop participants will visit the Billings Farmstead Gardens and explore the principles of no-till permaculture gardening. This method works within the natural cycles\, climate\, and environment using perennial plantings.  Workshop instructor Ben Pauly will delve into the how and why of the Billings hügelkultur mound and share tips on how to incorporate permaculture relationships into home gardening. Celebrate nature’s productivity and take the first steps in becoming an effective ecological planner. \nAbout Ben Pauly\nMaster Gardener Ben Pauly is the Director of Property Operations and Design for the Woodstock Inn & Resort. He oversees all creative landscaping for the resort. He conceptualized and created the Billings Farmstead Gardens and the 4-acre Kelly Way Gardens\, and each year he designs and constructs the Sunflower House at Billings Farm & Museum. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for gardening with his team and others in the community through workshops like the Billing Backyard Series. \nView our Safety Policy \nCancellation Policy: There are often waitlists for our courses\, so please let us know in advance if you are unable to attend.
