DESCRIPTION:Price:  $20/person\, $15/Billings Farm member\nPresenter: Rachel Kahn\nFor Ages: 16+ \nHarnessing the hues of a variety of plants\, this hands-on workshop will explore ways to create vibrant\, eco-friendly dyes.  Using yarn spun from the wool of Billings Farm Southdown Sheep\, participants will be guided through the botanical dyeing process\, transforming raw skeins into beautifully dyed yarns.  The class will include a discussion about growing\, harvesting\, and extracting color from plants including a Q&A session with the Billings Farm Lead Gardener. Each participant will leave the workshop with practical skills for home botanical dyeing projects and a colorful skein of yarn to use in their own fiber creations.     \nThe session will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A. SUMMARY:Math & Art: The Barn Quilts of Piermont Village School
DESCRIPTION:Since 2022\, 6th and 7th grade math students at Piermont Village School have been creating barn quilts as part of their curriculum. The students choose from traditional geometric quilt patterns or create their own designs. Once they decide on a pattern\, students use a grid to the create a small model to explore the pattern design and experiment with color choices. When the design is finalized\, students practice math skills by scaling up their pattern to create the final design. The finished barn quilts are displayed on the outside of the school building until the students complete 8th grade and graduate from the school. Come see this beautiful display in our historic events barn. \nThis exhibition is included with admission. \nNote: The exhibition will be closed to the public on Friday\, September 27 for a private event. \n

DESCRIPTION:Billings Farm & Museum is bringing the rural artistry of barn quilts to our scenic site from April 4 – December 1.  Barn quilting recreates the concept of quilt squares on durable mediums such as plywood. These squares\, starting at 4 feet by 4 feet and up\, feature striking colors and simple geometric designs.  \nCollaborating with Vermont artists as well as artisans from the Chelsea Barn Quilt Project and Barn Quilts of Northern Vermont who have been working to highlight barn quilting in Vermont\, each space will host a uniquely crafted piece inspired by nature\, math\, agriculture\, and the history of the Billings Farm site. Guests can wander through the picturesque farm and take in the boldly painted patterns that will adorn historic barns and buildings. \nThis exhibition is included with admission.
