DESCRIPTION:For ages 7-10 or entering grades 2-5\nRegistration for Camp 2022 opens Jan. 1\, 2022.\nHave you ever wondered what it takes to be a farmer?\nJunior Farmer Camp\, is designed to help kids discover for themselves by stepping into a farmer’s shoes for a week. \nJunior Farmer Camp is as hands-on as it gets. Campers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s cows\, horses\, chickens\, and sheep while learning the work that goes into the food we eat. In addition to daily farm chores and activities\, we will explore a different farming topics like dairy\, gardening\, tractors\, and draft animals. Other fun camp activities include: \n\nTaking a hayride through the farm fields\nHaving a pizza party with garden fresh ingredients\nParticipating in scavenger hunts around the farm\nTie dying a Junior Farmer Camp t-shirt\n\nLearn more here. \n  \nOur Junior Farmer Camp follows the CDC and state government guidelines to ensure the safety of our campers and counselors. The group sizes for each session will continue to be small\, consisting of 10-18 campers and 2-3 counselors and will be split into small groups following CDC guidelines for social distancing. \nOur response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated as more information and state government guidelines becomes available. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum. \nThe majority of our camp activities will be held outside where campers can maintain social distance. Campers help with animal chores for the sheep\, goats\, chickens\, and heifers\, take tractor-drawn wagon rides\, play games\, and do gardening\, crafts\, and cooking. We will take advantage of the adjacent National Historical Park for hiking and learn about Vermont’s natural history. We can’t wait to see you at Junior Farmer Camp! \n  \nAftercare Information:\nWe understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time. \nAftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm\, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare\, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms. \nWe have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time. \nAftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. DESCRIPTION:Capture the sunflower’s magnificent blooms in watercolor as they reach their peak in the Billings Farm Sunflower House. This workshop\, led by Artist-in-Residence\, Margaret Dwyer\, is designed for painters of all levels. Sunflowers are the perfect subject for this medium because they are so bright and bold and the class will focus on the importance of brushwork and mark making. Register now! \nAbout the Artist: \nMargaret Dwyer earned her Master of Fine Art degree in Visual Arts in 2008 from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her thesis work involved researching\, writing\, and creating art based on psychological themes such as trauma\, dreams\, and the unconscious. She works in 2-D and 3-D mediums\, though watercolor is her favorite. Her artwork has been recognized in numerous juried national and international exhibitions and has been published in fine art books and magazines. From 2019 to 2021\, Margaret was the Artist in Residence for Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock\, VT. As a mural artist\, she has created dozens of public and private murals throughout New England. Learn how to support a late-season honey harvest\, how to winterize your hives\, and preserve late-season food sources. \nA Q&A period with the presenter may continue for up to 30 minutes past the scheduled end time. \nAbout Troy Hall \nWhat started as a hobby with no aspirations or desire to be anything more than that has turned into a full-time occupation and passion of mine. Growing up as a native to the Upper Valley Region of New Hampshire and Vermont\, I had no idea that one could make a peaceful living from working with bees. In time\, becoming more knowledgeable in the craft I befriended two commercial beekeepers from the Champlain Valley region of Vermont. Visiting their apiaries and working alongside them gave me insight into a world that I quickly fell in love with\, living and working alongside the honey bee. \nGleaning from what I had learned and experienced\, in 2010 I was driven and motivated to start down the path of growing my avocation with beekeeping into my vocation. It has been anything but easy. Lots of hard work with no pay\, often seeing and experiencing failure and setbacks for the first few years. Especially when I decided to wean the apiary off of ALL and ANY treatments for mites and other ailments. Being that from the beginning\, with the paradigm that I had chosen to run the apiary off of I was able to experience large colony mortality rates every winter\, and still be sustaining growth and profitability in the next season\, all from within the apiary itself. Looking back I am continually humbled by working alongside the honey bee. I often underestimate her vigor\, hard work and resilience to the environment that surrounds her. Please contact afannin@billingsfarm.org to be added to the waitlist. \nJoin us in November for our Date Night Cooking Class featuring Italian cuisine! \n  \nExplore fresh\, local ingredients and learn cooking techniques in this fun\, chef-led cooking class! \nUsing local seasonal ingredients\, you and a partner will follow Billings Farm’s Chef Emery as you prepare your own multi-course\, Mediterranean-cuisine inspired menu.  \nChef Emery will highlight garden-fresh ingredients local to our region\, with bold and crisp flavors and light\, healthy fair\, sharing her extensive knowledge of the cooking process and how to use the local\, seasonal ingredients.   \nDine on your delicious creations in the beautiful\, restored barn at Billings Farm. The evening will conclude with a delectable dessert. \nAbout Chef Emery Gray \nEmery Gray\, Farm to Table Manager at Billings Farm & Museum and former Pastry Chef de Partie at the Woodstock Inn and Resort\, had a passion for food at a very young age. Seeing the way that people connected through the growing\, sharing and cooking of food\, inspired her to make a career in the kitchen. She attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park\, NY\, earning her Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and her Bachelor’s in Business Management.
