SUMMARY:Vermont Female Farmers Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Vermont Female Farmers is an exhibition of 45 photographs by JuanCarlos González on display in Billings Farm’s Historic Barn from August 19 – October 31. NOTE: The exhibition will be closed for a private event on Friday\, Sept. 22 and Saturday\, Sept. 23. \nThis project focuses on the meaningful and impactful contributions that female farmers are making to the State’s culture\, identity\, and economy.  From 2020-2022\, González visited and documented 38 farmers\, photographing them at work during their daily life on the farm\, capturing their livelihood\, labor\, and passion. \nThe exhibition title\, Vermont Female Farmers\, evokes each of the three elements portrayed in each photograph.  González created stunning portraits of women who work in the farm industry.  Each image captures the act of farming\, including the products or animals that are produced on each farm. All are set against a backdrop of the wild and varied beauty of Vermont’s land and rolling hills.  Within these incredible compositions\, each image provides insight into the unique story behind the farms and spotlights the underrepresented voices of women in agriculture. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, González brings together the photographs\, stories\, histories\, and insights into each farm in a beautiful coffee-table book.  The book is featured for sale in the Billings Farm Gift Shop along with specialty items from many of the farms. \nFind a listing of the featured farmers and farms at www.vermontfemalefarmers.com. \nAbout the Photographer\nOriginally from Maunabo\, Puerto Rico\, JuanCarlos González is a photojournalist and storyteller\, as well as an event and landscape photographer who currently lives in Plymouth\, Vermont.  His work has been featured in National Geographic\, Vogue Italia\, the Boston Globe\, and Leica Fotografie International. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Price:  $135/person\, $125/Billings Farm memberPresenter: Kimberly HessFor Ages: 16+Registration Deadline Has Passed \nIf you have any questions regarding the class or your registration\, please contact Charlene at cpeavey@billingsfarm.org. \nJoin our Barn Quilt Painting Workshop\, led by expert Kimberly Hess\, where you’ll learn how to add pop of color\, geometric design\, and fun to your favorite outbuilding with a handmade barn quilt.  In this full-day workshop\, you’ll choose from four beautiful designs and create a 2-foot by 2-foot barn quilt to take home and proudly display on your shed\, house\, or barn.  Throughout the day on the farm\, you can draw inspiration from the Billings Farm Barn Quilt Exhibition as you explore your creativity and learn the art of barn quilting. \nAll materials will be provided and a cheese and cracker snack will be served.  Please note that lunch is not included.  You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks or purchase a sandwich made by the VT Snack Shack\, Vermont-made ice cream\, and snacks from our Farmhouse Scoop Shop. \n\n\n\n \n Designs Participants Can Choose From \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Design 1 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Design 2 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Design 3 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Design 4 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n About Kimberly Hess \nOriginally from Southern California\, Kimberly Hess has a rich history of crafting\, often working alongside her grandfather.  After moving to the East Coast to attend Norwich University\, she developed a passion for sewing and has since created over 100 quilts.  During recovery from surgery\, Hess discovered barn quilting.
