DESCRIPTION:The Vermont Quilt Sampler Exhibition will be displayed in the Billings Farm Historic Barn gallery from June 29 – September 2\, 2024. For the first time\, this annual juried quilt exhibition includes quilts submitted from throughout Vermont—from 13 out of 14 counties in fact! \nThe display features 56 quilts showcasing a sampler of skills and techniques\, while also highlighting the stories of their makers. Interpretive panels and gallery labels guide visitors through themes including inspiration\, current events\, teaching and learning\, fabric as a memory\, humor\, and joy. These themes explore the creative process and celebrate the emotional connections that quilts can provide. \nAwards include Juror’s Choice and Staff Choice. Vote for your favorite quilt to be selected for the People’s Choice Award\, which will be announced on July 27. Ballots are available in the exhibition hall \nVisitors are invited to try engaging\, hands-on activities\, including scavenger hunts\, a quilt piecing game\, and a quilt “anatomy” display with touchable fabrics to show all the pieces that go into quilt making. DESCRIPTION:Price:  $20/person\, $15/Billings Farm member\nPresenter: Rachel Kahn\nFor Ages: 16+ \nHarnessing the hues of a variety of plants\, this hands-on workshop will explore ways to create vibrant\, eco-friendly dyes.  Using yarn spun from the wool of Billings Farm Southdown Sheep\, participants will be guided through the botanical dyeing process\, transforming raw skeins into beautifully dyed yarns.  The class will include a discussion about growing\, harvesting\, and extracting color from plants including a Q&A session with the Billings Farm Lead Gardener. Each participant will leave the workshop with practical skills for home botanical dyeing projects and a colorful skein of yarn to use in their own fiber creations.     \nThe session will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A. DESCRIPTION:Billings Farm & Museum is bringing the rural artistry of barn quilts to our scenic site from April 4 – December 1.  Barn quilting recreates the concept of quilt squares on durable mediums such as plywood. These squares\, starting at 4 feet by 4 feet and up\, feature striking colors and simple geometric designs.  \nCollaborating with Vermont artists as well as artisans from the Chelsea Barn Quilt Project and Barn Quilts of Northern Vermont who have been working to highlight barn quilting in Vermont\, each space will host a uniquely crafted piece inspired by nature\, math\, agriculture\, and the history of the Billings Farm site. Guests can wander through the picturesque farm and take in the boldly painted patterns that will adorn historic barns and buildings. \nThis exhibition is included with admission.

DESCRIPTION:Farm & Forest Yoga Flow\nMondays\, June – September (There will be no class Mon\, Sept 16)\nTime: 5:15PM-6:30PM\nThis event is complimentary \nStretch in the beautiful pastures of Billings Farm! Free yoga sessions will be held on Monday evenings from June 3 through September 30\, from 5:15 PM to 6:30 PM. \nThis weekly Farm & Forest Yoga Flow is designed to help you connect with the land\, yourself\, and the community through movement\, meditation\, and shared experiences\, led by Jen Jackson\, a Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Historical National Park Ranger\, and certified yoga teacher. It is suitable for participants of all experience levels\, including beginners. \nBring a mat and check in at the Billings Farm Visitor Center at 5:15PM for a tea service with herbs from the Farmstead Garden. Practice begins at 5:30PM.

SUMMARY:Math & Art: The Barn Quilts of Piermont Village School
DESCRIPTION:Since 2022\, 6th and 7th grade math students at Piermont Village School have been creating barn quilts as part of their curriculum. The students choose from traditional geometric quilt patterns or create their own designs. Once they decide on a pattern\, students use a grid to the create a small model to explore the pattern design and experiment with color choices. When the design is finalized\, students practice math skills by scaling up their pattern to create the final design. The finished barn quilts are displayed on the outside of the school building until the students complete 8th grade and graduate from the school. Come see this beautiful display in our historic events barn. \nThis exhibition is included with admission. \nNote: The exhibition will be closed to the public on Friday\, September 27 for a private event. \n
