Today we celebrate A Family Halloween! Children in costume receive free admission when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Costume parades will be held at 11:30 & 1:30 p.m., and all children will receive a ribbon. Costumed children can enter to win a drawing for a $10 gift certificate to the Museum Shop. Drawings will be held following each costume parade.
Hayrides around the farm will be offered from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Trick-or-treat safely from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at candy stations located around the farm.
Activities for all ages include pumpkin bowling, making spider web necklaces, plus family-friendly Halloween story readings. Families can venture through the “not too spooky” Farm Life Exhibits while searching for the hidden pumpkins and take a “Sheep Trick or Treat” Story Walk by the pastures.
Don’t fear the annual pumpkin carving contest! Guests vote for their favorite in the ‘spooktastic” display of decorated pumpkins created by our staff! See the roasted pumpkin seed display and take home the Billings Farm recipe.
It’s also Harvest at the Farm! See our farm animals in the pastures with the start of colorful foliage as a backdrop. Meet a new calf up close in the Heifer Barn, enjoy a walk along the Ottauquechee River Trail, visit the apple orchard and see the many different apple varieties, and learn about 19th century harvest activities on the farm.
Autumn is also the time for a special treat – cider and doughnuts! Available daily at the Dairy Bar along with seasonal flavors of Vermont-based Wilcox ice cream and Billings Farm cheese. The Dairy Bar is open 11:00AM-4:00PM.
Wander our educational Heirloom Garden, Victory Garden, Pollinator Garden, and Pizza Garden to see what’s ready to harvest.
You will find interpretive displays on the porch, in the windows, and the terrace of the 1890 Farm Manager’s House. Enter near the Dairy Bar to watch how ice was cut for the ice house and to learn how it was used.
Other spaces that are open to guests include the Visitor Center & Theater, “Upon This Land” exhibit, Farm Life Exhibits, Wagon and Chicken Barns. Watch videos in the Activity Barn to learn how our cows are milked and to see demonstrations of historic recipes.
NOTE: Not all animals will be in the pastures every day. Additionally, the Animal Barns and 1890 Farm Manager’s House are closed until further notice due to safety precautions. Find a full list of what to visit at Billings Farm here.
