“Ties, Ties Ties…What do you do with the ties?”

When Patricia’s husband of 59 years left this life, she didn’t want to bring his ties to a thrift shop since many ties were a visual reminder of moments in their lives that they shared. A trip, a career, a belief, and a way of life were all represented by ties.

Then came the inspiration to create this memory quilt – thereby finding a great way to honor him and comfort her.

Seventy ties of silk, cotton, and wool were used to complete this project. I grouped the ties by complementary colors creating Fan and Dresden Plate blocks. Most ties of various widths were used in more than one quilt block. The leftover tie scraps were used to complete the border.

Machine and hand-driven longarm quilted.”
