Volunteer at Billings Farm

Billings Farm & Museum offers a variety of volunteer opportunities from assisting our archives and collections staff to helping Billings Farm & Museum provide a uniquely educational experience for schoolchildren and visitors alike. Volunteers assist in a variety of areas including leading education programs and hands-on craft activities and assisting at special events. Training and mentors will be provided.

Archives Volunteer: Are you a history buff who loves researching and using primary sources? If so, you may enjoy volunteering regularly in our extensive archives. Duties include assisting the Archives and Collections Specialist in organizing, rehousing, and cataloguing archive material and helping with special projects and research.

Arts and Crafts Volunteer: This position is perfect for creative-minded folks who love talking and working with people, especially families and children. The Arts and Crafts Volunteer facilitates existing craft projects for the public and brainstorms new site-related craft ideas.

Collections & Exhibitions Volunteer: For those interested in history, antiques, or behind-the-scenes aspects of museum work, the Collections & Exhibitions Volunteer position offers many exciting opportunities. Under the supervision of the Collections Assistant, Volunteers assist with inventorying, rehousing, and maintaining collections. They may also clean exhibitions and help with installation and deinstallation as necessary.

Education Garden Volunteer: If you have a green thumb and love talking about your garden with others, you might be interested in volunteering in our new Education Garden. We are looking for people to help keep the garden looking and producing its best, while talking with and teaching guests about gardening.

Education Volunteer:  The Education Volunteer position is great for anyone who loves teaching and working with people. Education Volunteers are in charge of staffing fun and dynamic “pop-up” activity stations for our guests as well as engaging visitors in our new education space.

Library Volunteer: Highly-organized people with a passion for researching and reading may enjoy volunteering in our Billings Farm & Museum Research Library. In addition to keeping track of loans and reshelving books, the Library Volunteer may assist staff and outside researchers in finding useful sources and help with special projects such as inventorying and reorganizing the library.
