The Vitality of Poetry: Ruth Stone’s Life Story Featured in Vermont Filmmaker’s New Film Director’s Cut Screening at Billings Farm & Museum January 7 & 8 at 3PM
For the aspiring poet, writer, artist, or none of the above, Ruth Stone’s story, humor, and verse will entertain, enlighten, and inspire. The Woodstock Vermont Film Series will present Ruth Stone’s Vast Library of the Female Mind with showings on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8 at 3:00PM.
This visually beautiful film uses a clever juxtaposition of archival footage and interviews with contemporaries along with animation by Ruth’s granddaughter to chronicle her life story as a poet, mother, and teacher. The film captures Ruth in her own words – in her prime and in her later years – surrounded by her loving, creative family touched by tragedy.
Saturday’s screening will be followed by a discussion with award-winning, Norwich, Vermont filmmaker, Nora Jacobson and the Film Series curator, Jay Craven.
“Jacobson not only tells us who Ruth Stone was, but also why we should pay attention to her and her poetry. She is an artist we are fortunate to have brought from the edge of obscurity to enrich a world that desperately needs her voice.” – Marilyn Ferdinand, Alliance of Women Film Journalists.
The Woodstock Vermont Film Series will screen documentary films weekly on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00PM in the Billings Farm & Museum Visitor Center Theater through February 19.
