On May 20, 1893, Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s speech on “The Ethics of Suffrage” was read at the World’s Congress of Representative Women at the Chicago Columbian Exposition. A founding member of the Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York, Cady Stanton spoke in speeches across the country to help get women the right to vote. She passed away 18 years before the 19th Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920. View the speech.
