From Oscar®-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, Folktales is a life-affirming journey to Arctic Norway, where teenagers spend a transformative “gap year” at Pasvik Folk High School. Relying on one another and a loyal pack of Siberian huskies, they learn to dog sled, navigate the wilderness, and discover new strength and purpose.
Inspired by the Norse myth of the Norns, deities who wove the threads of fate and shaped humans’ futures, Pasvik Folk High School aims to create similar life-changing experiences for its students. Through intimate storytelling and exhilarating cinematography, Folktales captures young people on the cusp of adulthood, finding themselves at the edge of the world.
“Folktales” lends a universal resonance to the coming-of-age story, just as good folk tales do. These young people might trust the Norns to thread their fates, but learning to control their own destinies proves an empowering life lesson.” – POV Magazine
