An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until July 22, 2022
For ages 11-14 or entering grades 6-9 Go in-depth into the world of farming!
What does it mean to be part of a farming community? Farm Discovery Camp is a hands-on program for young people, ages 11-14 (rising 6th-9th graders), who want a deeper understanding of farming and all that it encompasses.
At Farm Discovery Camp you will meet local professionals and farmers who are leaders in their fields — the Billings Dairy Farm Manager, local beekeepers, and a large animal veterinarian. Work alongside our farmers to learn the ins and outs of dairy production. Take part in a local service project — at Billings Farm or in the Woodstock community and make a lasting difference. Along the way, you will gain an awareness of the many ways our food systems and our ecosystems are interconnected. You will have the chance to:
Experience the daily rhythms of farming and learn firsthand how farmers make decisions about caring for the herd and the land
Make farm-fresh food including homemade macaroni and cheese and ice cream with Billings Farm’s jersey cow milk
Meet farmers in our community and learn how to care for a calf, raise bees, and more
Try fiber arts such as felting wool from Billings Farm sheep
Explore the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park with a park ranger
Make an impact on the farm and in the community with organized service projects
Our Farm Discovery Camp follows the CDC and state government guidelines to ensure the safety of our campers and counselors. The group sizes for each session will continue to be small, consisting of 10-18 campers and 2-3 counselors and will be split into small groups following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Our response to COVID-19 will continue to be updated as more information and state government guidelines becomes available. Campers and parents will receive prior notice of all other safety precautions and processes implemented at the Farm & Museum.
The majority of our camp activities will be held outside where campers can maintain social distance.
Aftercare Information:
We understand that everyone’s schedule is a little different and picking up your camper(s) can be a challenge at times. We’re happy to offer an aftercare option for families who are not able to make it to the 4:00 pm pick up time.
Aftercare runs from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is only available for full-day camps (Junior Farmer Camp & Farm Discovery Camp). You may register your camper(s) for this option on a weekly basis for $60 per camper per week. Your payment holds you spot in aftercare, and you can pay through our website after completing the camp forms.
We have a minimum attendance requirement to be able to provide this service. We will inform you 30 days prior to your camper’s session if aftercare is unavailable. We will process a refund at that time.
Aftercare is a supervised time but not a structured activity time. Campers are encouraged to bring a book or other activity for this time.
2022 Dates
Session 1: July 18-22
Time: 9 am – 4 pm
Drop off between 8:45am and 9am. Pick up promptly at 4pm.
Refunds can be given if notice is received prior to May 21st with a $50 processing fee. No refunds after May 21st. If you are requesting to move your camper to another session, we will do so if there is availability.
