Treat Yourself on National Ice Cream Day Sunday, July 17

When the weather is warm, what better way to cool off than with the refreshingly sweet, frozen treat of ice cream.  On July 17, Billings Farm & Museum will celebrate National Ice Cream Day, from 10AM – 5PM, with specialty sundaes, live music, food, games, crafts and more!

On a day to celebrate dairy across the country, Billings Farm & Museum is the place to “treat yourself!”  The Farmhouse Café, open 11AM –5PM, will feature a special sundae for purchase with two scoops of Vermont-made ice cream topped with a generous drizzle of raspberry-infused hot fudge and whipped cream.

Guests will enjoy the harmony and hip shaking music of Rose Hip Jam, playing live from 12 – 3PM.  There will be fun educational programs throughout the day with “Meet a Jersey Cow” at 11AM and 2PM, “Children’s Story Time” with an ice cream theme at 12PM and 3PM, “Meet Our Sheep” at 1PM and 4PM, and a Milking Demonstration in the Cow Barn from 3:15 – 5:00PM. Children can decorate a scoop to take home – in the form of a cute ice cream bookmark topped with a cherry pom pom.

Admission to Billings Farm & Museum includes the Animal Barns, Vermont Farm Life Exhibits, the Walking Trail, the Farmstead Gardens, and the 1890 Farm Manager’s House. The 1890 Farm Manager’s House features the creamery, the kitchen and in-home innovations that were considered state-of-the art for the time. Visitors can meet the farm’s cows, draft horses, sheep, goats, and chickens in the barns and scenic pastures.

The Museum Gift Shop Dairy Display will feature Billings Farm dairy products including delicious Butter, Smoked, and Woodstock Reserve cheddar, and Norwich Farm Creamery chocolate milk made from  Billings Farm milk.

The Billings Farm Volunteer Program is a way to make meaningful connections with the Billings community. Volunteers make new friends, share their enthusiasm for farming, rural life, gardening, and history, and learn new skills. There are a range of positions and flexible timeslots available. Volunteers will greet guests, facilitate crafts, or give out Billings Farm Cheese samples. To get involved, please visit billingsfarm.org/volunteer/.
